T-Mobile Arena Grand Prize
Case Study

About The Project
Our team partnered with T-Mobile Arena, located on The Strip in Las Vegas, to showcase their venue's latest Cisco Vision integrations. TMA was looking for a flashy, in-app, grand prize experience to display throughout their entire venue, including their 25 video displays, indoor 12-display centerhang, and welcoming 9,000 square foot LED Video Wall.
The Challenges
-
What kind of sweepstake experience should we incorporate into their existing app?
-
We only had one developer available with bandwidth. So how could we create the best Vegas-worthy experience with so little dev time?
-
T-Mobile Arena requested that we somehow incorporate LA Ram's branding.

The Proccess
Our design team immediately recognized that we had to work closely and collaboratively with our single available developer. We began by quickly brainstorming what type of grand prize experience would appear in the T-Mobile Arena app. Since this was taking place in Vegas - gambling immediately came to mind. From a slot machine, to bingo, we decided a simple scratch-off would be most practical given our timeframe and bandwidth. But the prototype seemed to be missing something. Simple animation and sound effects added just the bit of flashiness we needed.
We also had to consider how to incorporate the venue's Cisco Vision integrations into the experience. T-Mobile Arena initially only needed this for presentation purposes, so a single trigger could activate a video. After some testing, our team collectively decided to add a button after the scratch-off reveals a set up numbers to trigger a video. The video would then display the winning numbers throughout the venue.
We created quick storyboards in preparation for the big video reveal. Since this video was being seen throughout the entire venue, this would be a great opportunity to incorporate LA Ram's branding - as requested by the client. We also needed to make sure the video had that Vegas-worthy style. After several iterations, randomized numbers and sparkling fireworks added just the right amount of anticipation and flashiness that we needed.

The Final Deliverables
We created a test build that sent a geo-fenced pushed notification once the user was near T-Mobile Arena. Once tapped upon, the user was taken into the app. The grand prize scratch-off UI appeared, and allowed the user to 'scratch' off the screen to reveal their unique number. Then, a 'Check Numbers' button appeared, and caused the video to trigger across the entire venue once tapped. The video 'randomly' generated a number, and (surprise!) matched our user's number.

Main Takeaways
-
Working directly with only one developer allowed for quick building, testing & decision making.
-
This was only used for presentation purposes. The overall UX would need further thought if the client decided to fully roll-out into an app update.
-
A little time spent on animation and sound effects can go a long way.
